Dilwaaz Project
Dil means heart and waaz means open, together – open-heart. The meaning itself falls somewhere between a sensation of unhindered openness, possibility and freedom and the notion of feeling utterly enlightened. Imagine looking upon a vast horizon, or across an open sea – an expanse of open-ended possibility, this is Dilwaaz. Perhaps a better way to describe the meaning of dilwaaz is to explain what it is the opposite of– it is the reverse of trapped, stifled, confined and stagnant.
This name resonated because the mission of Dilwaaz is to assist Afghan’s with one main goal and intention in mind: to give Afghan’s back their freedom and personal liberties.
Dilwaaz is a non-profit, founded by Afghan for Afghans. We aim to assist displaced Afghan’s within Afghanistan as well as those seeking refuge globally - in building better futures and providing the basics that every human has the right to. The things we often take for granted.
Within Afghanistan
Food & Shelter
Providing access to basic food and shelter against harsh weather conditions.
Protect the Children
Identifying vulnerable minors and assisting when and where we can. For
example, we recently identified six children who were being sold due to their families financial crisis and inability to provide for them. We are now working with the family to make sure they have the means to care for their children and support their growth.
E-School
Virtual school and online lessons which are accessible to Afghans within and outside Afghanistan. Working with a group of reliable volunteers who are committed and speak the necessary languages and have the necessary skill set to provide consistent schooling.
Beyond Afghanistan
Psychological Support
Trauma counselling, support groups, match-making with psychologists and
counsellors.
Opportunities
Working alongside local NGO’s and entities to train women in skillsets that can provide them long-term independence and job placements. Help displaced Afghan’s to navigate foreign and what can be a daunting and unfamiliar process.
Education
In addition to the virtual school, we work on finding suitable schools for Afghan’s,
connecting them with diaspora/communities and finding suitable scholarships/educational opportunities and mentor programmes for them.
Community
Linking Afghan’s who have recently been displaced to diaspora communities, who can guide and help them. Crucial for cultural understanding and overcoming language barriers.
